Fayette – Duane W. Mercier, 66, a resident of Fayette, died Wednesday, February 6th at his home surrounded by his family. The most important thing to Duane was family. Most conversations with him were things that could be measured or calculated, but many of his thoughts were about things that were limitless and intangible. He said, “The meaning of life is to love and be loved. I love my family, and I know that I am loved”. Duane was born into the family of Wilfred and Noella Mercier on May 11, 1952. He has three sisters whom he deeply loved: Linda Baillargeon (husband Clem), Sharon Folker (husband Frank), and Claudia Marlott. Duane worked at Cony High School for 13 years as a math teacher and chess coach. For the remainder of his career he worked as an actuary in the Portland area. Duane was married to Anita (Girardin) Mercier on December 29, 1973. Together they have three children: Wilfred Mercier (wife Anna), Andre Mercier (wife Katie), and Davis Mercier (wife Jess). He lived his life for family and loved nothing more than spending time at home with his wife and sons. He was overjoyed to celebrate and witness the marriage of all of his sons and watch his family grow with the addition of his two grandchildren, Evie and Blake Mercier. He loved watching “The Blake and Evie Show: whenever his family came together.

My condolences I extend for the passing of your beloved family member, Duane. He will surely be missed. Death was never a part of God's original plan for mankind. Sadly due to the disobedience of one man Adam, in the Garden of Eden we all inherited sin and death.(Romans 5:12) Lovingly Our Grand Creator extends to us all once again the hope of everlasting life as found at John 3:16.36. He will make this hope a reality by means of his Kingdom in which we pray for in the Lord's Prayer. Once more I am very sorry for your loss.

My heartfelt condolences to the Mercier family. There are no words to express the loss of a husband, father, brother, son and friend. Very soon we will see the promise in Revelation 21:4 fulfilled where it gives us the hope that death and the pain it causes will be gone forever. I hope this promise along with the memories of Duane can help sustain your grief at this time. May the "God of All Comfort" be with you now and in the difficult days ahead. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4)
