Obituary for John S. Towle
Auburn, ME – John S. Towle of Turner, ME was called to his heavenly home on November 22, 2017 with family members by his side. He was born on October 22, 1932 in Topsham, ME, son of Robert S. Towle and Frances Fernald. After finishing his education, John enlisted in the Army, serving from 1949 to 1953. Upon his return to Turner Maine, he met and married Norma Hamlin in 1954. They settled in Southwick, Massachusetts where they were active in their church. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in June 2017. John started work at Hamilton Standard in Connecticut in 1967 and retired from there in 1993 after 26 years. During this time, he spent many years involved with the space program. Following his retirement, he and his wife Norma returned to Turner, designing/building their own home on Lower Street, where they have resided since 1998. John has been an active member of the Wayside Bible Baptist Church and was a member of the Turner Seniors Group. In addition to his wife Norma Towle of Turner, John is survived by his seven children, Annie Potts and her husband Harold (Buddy) of Westfield, MA, Brenda Towle of Holyoke, MA, Cheryl Buffam and her husband Richard of Aruba, Pamela Girouard and her husband Gary of Chicopee, MA, Daniel Towle and his wife Susan of Southwick MA, Vicki Kornacki and her husband John of Blandford, MA and Wendy Sylvester and her husband Theodore of Southwick, MA 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; one sister, Daphne Burns of Auburn, ME, 2 brothers, Robert H. Towle of Lampassas, TX and Dana Holbrook of Bridgewater, MA; 1 brother-in-law, Robert P. Hamlin of Turner, ME and 1 sister in law, Betty Hamlin-Smith of Turner, ME. Towle – John S., 85 of Turner, Maine passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in Auburn, Maine. A Celebration of Life service will be held on December 30, 2017 at the Wayside Bible Baptist Church, 1724 Federal Road, Livermore, Maine. The celebration will start at 1:00 PM and the family invites all attendees to an informal reception after the service. A private family interment will be at a later date.
