Obituary for Kay Hockenberry
Bangor- Kay Elizabeth Hockenberry, 66, a resident of Canaan, formerly of Monmouth, passed away on Tuesday, May 16th at Eastern Maine Medical in Bangor. Her family remembers her as a generous, selfless, hardworking, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was born on February 19, 1951, the daughter of Frank Getchell and Madelyn (DeFratis) Getchell. Kay was a graduate of Monmouth Academy and the University of Maine at Farmington. Kay married her husband Mark Hockenberry in 1987 at the Monmouth Community Church. She retired from teaching after 36 years at Monmouth, touching many lives, a vocation she really loved. Kay’s husband Mark had operated a collision repair business in Winthrop until they moved their family to Canaan, Maine in 2004, where he opened an auto sales business. Kay and Mark just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. The past 2 and a half years were spent on day trips and stops at different restaurants. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Mark, her grandson is a survivor of Shaken Baby Syndrome and with Kay’s compassion, patience and devotion has been a testament to Mark’s continued progress. We are ever so privileged and proud that Kay has touched all of us with her unconditional love and kindness. We shall miss her every day and in every way. Kay was a very special lady! Her last wish was to donate her organs to help save others. Kay would like to ask that we all pay tribute to her by supporting our local schools, libraries and PBS. She is survived by her husband, Mark Hockenberry of Canaan, three daughters; Kelly Morang and husband Keith of Winthrop, Katherine Connor and husband Geoff of South Paris, Danielle Hockenberry-Vaugh of Indiana, PA, two sons; Andy O’Hearn his wife Elizabeth of Winthrop; and Garrett Hockenberry of Madison, 11 grandchildren; Easton, Taylor, Jackson, Emma, Carter, Saige, Donti, David, Jimmy, Mark and Michael.
